Neighborhood Watch Update

I am the new Neighborhood Watch Coordinator for LRCA.  With the help of the remaining Team Lead, Phil Shutler (thank you, Phil), we have put together a Watch schedule for the summer.  Prior to this, the Watch had not been operating.  As can be seen by some of the recent posts regarding crime and vandalism on the LRCA message board, we need an active and healthy Neighborhood Watch, but…

Many people are leaving the Neighborhood Watch.  We need new members, and we need old members to rejoin.  If our membership falls below a certain tipping point, the entire effort will collapse as we will be asking too few people to do all the watching.  The more members we have, the easier it is for all as you only have to do 4-5 shifts a year.  So I ask that volunteers PLEASE step forward.  E-mail me your name(s), number of people volunteering, e-mail address, street address, phone number, and any special requirements you have (won't watch if it is a full moon, etc.).  We run two shifts (9:00-10:30 & 10:30-12:00) of two people each on Fridays and Saturdays.  Participating in Neighborhood Watch has allowed me to meet many neighbors and learn a lot about the history of our neighborhood.

Additionally, we need two new Team Leads.  We want to have four teams total – one for each weekend of a month.  Team Leads are responsible for scheduling the watch members assigned to their team on their assigned weekends.  PLEASE also consider volunteering to be a team lead.

In other news, I am working with Fairfax County Police to have additional Neighborhood Watch signs erected in our neighborhood.  Hopefully those will be going up in the next few months.

PLEASE volunteer to help keep our neighborhood safe. Thanks.
